Anthropology has many facets—biology, language, social customs and beliefs—but it is, at its base, the study of humanity. And that is exactly what the word means: anthropology combines the Greek words anthropos (ἄνθρωπος), meaning "human," and logos (λόγος), meaning "statement or reckoning." Anthropology is the reckoning with or study of what makes us human.
