From the Greek noun κόσμος (kósmos), meaning “order, good order, orderly arrangement,” comes the English word cosmos. The word cosmos can refer to the universe generally or be used to convey the sense of the universe as an orderly or systematic whole.
The Greek philosopher Pythagoras is believed to be the first to use the word κόσμος (kósmos) to mean “world order” or “universe.”
