The rhinoceros is native to Africa and South Asia. Its defining characteristic is the horn that sprouts out of its snout. So it should come as no surprise that this is the trait from which its English name comes: rhinoceros combines the Greek words rhinos (ῥινός), meaning "nose," and keras (κέρας), meaning "horn."
