Prophet comes to us from the Latin word prŏphēta, meaning “a foreteller, soothsayer, prophet,” which itself comes from the Greek word προφήτης (prophḗtēs) of the same meaning.
There are a several famous prŏphēta mentioned in the Vulgate, one of the most famous was “Isaiah the prophet (prŏphēta) the son of Amoz.” (2 Chronicles 32:32)
