From the Hebrew words מלך (melek) meaning "king," and צדק (sedeq), which is either the name of the Canaʿanite deity Sedeq or the Hebrew word "righteous," the name Melkisedeq, anglicized as Melchizedek, means either "My king is Sedeq" or "My king is righteous." The name appears in the Bible in Genesis 14:18–20 and the Epistle to the Hebrews chapters 5 and 7.
