The Hebrew noun כהן (kohen, pronounced KO-hen), means "priest." For instance, Genesis 18:18 says of Melchizedek that, "he was priest (כהן) of God Most High." The word כהן is also a verb meaning "to serve as priest" or "to do priestly things." For example, Exodus 30:30 reads: "You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, in order that they may serve me as priestsכהן)."
