The Hebrew word for "camel" is the similar sounding גמל (gámal), as in Genesis 24:63: "Isaac went out in the evening to walk in the field; and looking up, he saw camels (הגמלים) coming." Socially, camels can be seen as a symbol of wealth, for instance, when the queen of Sheba visits Solomon in 1 Kings 10:2: "She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue, with camels (גמלים) bearing spices, and very much gold, and precious stones."
